Shuai Jiao Chinese Wrestling Workshop

Saturday/Sunday January 21 and 22, 2017, 3 – 5 p.m.

Shuai Jiao dates back over 4,000 years and is a great tool for traditional and modern martial artists interested in developing their standing wrestling techniques. The Beijing style presented in this workshop is characterized by the use of the legs to kick and off-balance opponents, and the use of arm locks.

At San Bao Center, special guest Sonny Mannon will lead a two-day workshop covering fundamental exercises, basic throws, standing grappling and take downs. No gi required. All levels welcome. Adults and teens (16+). Previous inscription required – space is limited to 16 participants per day.

About Sonny Mannon
Lao Shi Sonny Mannon has been studying Chinese Martial arts for the last 16 years, including 8 years living and training full-time in Beijing, China. Sonny is one of the only foreigners to study Shuai Jiao in China and is the first foreigner to be recognized with a Coach’s Certificate from the Chinese Shuai Jiao Professional Committee, which is an extension of the Beijing Shuai Jiao Association, the largest non-governmental Shuai Jiao Association in China.

Sonny, alongside his teacher Liu Zu Guang, founded the Guang Wu Shuai Jiao Association which is the only association providing training in Beijing style Shuai Jiao internationally with Certified Instructors in Europe and North America and has put on Shuai Jiao seminars and workshops all over the world. Sonny has competed in many Shuai Jiao tournaments in China and internationally, most recently taking 5th place at the 2015 World Championships in Wenzhou, China.

Currently Sonny teaches Shuai Jiao as well as Chen and Yang style Tai Ji, Cheng and Liang style Baguazhang and Da Bei Quan at his school Sequoia Kung Fu which is located in Visalia, CA.
